Check the aerial view shows your building. This is a location image, not a panel plan. Roof measurements and obstacles need a site survey.

Roof checks: orientation & clearance

North-facing, flat, very steep and low-yield positions are held for an installer assessment. Small rooflights, hidden obstructions and shared boundaries may be missed in aerial data.

A clearer starting point

What could solar and a battery change for your home?

Compare the possibilities before arranging a survey. Your roof, electricity use and tariff all shape the result.

Your roof’s potential

Compare solar + battery options screened for roof orientation, modelled shading and 400 mm roof-edge clearance. Panel numbers are preliminary and require a survey.

Your electricity savings

Use a monthly electricity bill or annual kWh to estimate annual savings and compare monthly electricity costs before and after solar with storage.

Your battery choices

See what storage adds to the same panels, explore an off-peak charging schedule, and request a Whole Home Backup assessment.

No name or email is needed to see your results. Roof coverage varies; if usable data is unavailable, we’ll tell you.

Storage is part of the plan

A battery changes when you can use your energy.

Solar generation and household demand do not always happen together. SolarIQ models how stored electricity could help cover demand later in the day.

Read our battery assumptions

Keep more solar for later

Compare using stored solar at home with exporting that energy. The estimate includes battery losses and the export income you give up.

Explore off-peak charging

Enter your own cheaper electricity rate and charging hours. The model includes charging costs and losses; a charging schedule does not always improve savings.

Plan backup around your home

Whole Home Backup needs compatible equipment and a property assessment. Backup equipment and works are additional; backup energy reserves are not included in the savings model.

Know what to have ready

Your bill is a good place to start.

For example, a household could enter 4,000 kWh a year, then add its actual import and export rates. That is an example input, not an assumption about your home.

For a more useful estimate

  • Your full property address
  • Annual electricity use in kWh, or an average monthly electricity-only bill
  • Your electricity unit rates and daily standing charge

Annual kWh avoids uncertainty from gas charges and fixed direct debits. Smart meter connection is coming soon.

Before you begin

Solar and battery calculator: your questions.

Is the solar and battery calculator free?

Yes. You can look up your roof and view an estimate without giving your name or email. Sending yourself the estimate is optional and also saves an enquiry with GThink Ltd.

How accurate are the estimated savings?

The estimate uses available roof data, the electricity use and tariffs you enter, and stated modelling assumptions. Solar timing and household demand patterns are illustrative. Roof suitability, equipment selection and prices need confirmation through a survey. Read how we calculate your estimate.

What size home battery do I need?

Battery size depends on when you use electricity, your solar output, tariff and backup needs. SolarIQ currently compares example capacities of 5.12 and 10.24 kWh. These are starting points for discussion; the calculator does not yet optimise battery size for your home.

Will a battery always save more money?

No. The financial benefit depends on how often stored energy is used, the difference between import and export prices, charging losses and the installed price. You can compare the same panels with and without storage to see the estimated difference.

Does the estimate include whole-house backup?

You can request an assessment. The displayed installation allowance excludes additional backup equipment and electrical works. The assessment will establish which appliances could run together and for how long.

Is the displayed installation price a quotation?

No. Until installer pricing is configured, SolarIQ shows an illustrative total allowance. A confirmed proposal needs a property assessment. The customer price is presented as a total for the installation.

Can I use SolarIQ anywhere in the UK?

The calculator is intended for UK homes where usable roof data is available. Installation enquiries through electricalworks currently focus on Surrey and South West London. Shared buildings require a separate feasibility discussion.

Understand the estimate

Clear assumptions. A practical next step.

SolarIQ is developed and operated by GThink Ltd, the company behind electricalworks. Our calculation method explains the data sources, battery behaviour and costs included in your estimate.

What is an IHD?

An In-Home Display (IHD) is the small, portable digital screen provided by your energy supplier (e.g., Octopus, British Gas) that shows your real-time electricity usage.

To verify access to your electricity supply, we need the full 16-character MAC Address (or GUID).

Where to find it: Pick up your IHD screen and turn it upside down. Look for a white barcode sticker on the bottom. The MAC address is usually 16 characters long, containing numbers and letters (A-F).
